Several poets gathered at Washington, DC's Newman Gallery to present poems that they wrote in response to C. M. Turpenoff's exhibit of artwork. The ekphrastic extravaganza included a poem by Larew that was inspired by Mr. Turpenoff's "Prairie Sunrise."
Thanks to the Gallery, Mr. Turpenoff and Anne Harding Woodworth for offering this opportunity.
The painting -- "Prairie Sunrise" is the fifth of the "Landscape Variations" on Mr. Turpenoff's website -- Fine Art Objectives | Fine Art Objectives
Larew's poem is below.
The photo includes some of the participating poets -- from left, J. Nordhaus, B. Bunting, H. Larew, A. Harding Woodworth, D. Wilbon Parks and P. Smith.
By Light or Sing
There is this love of when and where
Or how to see
And what could be or was
Or even each beginning
Yes a love of every time and rise
And things by light or sing
Or greens of orange that tease beyond
With more and more of why
This love that loves the far around
And echoes all -
This love that calls from breeze to hum
And opens all the listen
- Hiram Larew
